 Hotel Chocolat, the UK chocolate retailer, was founded over ten years ago by 
 entrepreneurs Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris with a vision of making chocolate 
 exciting again for UK consumers bored by the mediocrity of what was available 
 in supermarkets and on the high street.

 Starting as an online and catalogue-based business, the last few years has 
 welcomed a series of exciting expansions for Hotel Chocolat. Six stores were 
 opened in 2004/2005, with approximately 20 planned in 2006. Hotel Chocolat
 Corporate, a concierge style bespoke service for business has been developed 
 and the exciting new ‘All Dark Club’ has been launched that will run alongside 
 the existing hugely successful ‘Chocolate Tasting Club’. All developments are 
 helping move the company towards its overall aim of making exciting chocolate 
 vailable to everyone. 

 Using quality, authentic ingredients is an ethos that has been fundamental at 
 Hotel Chocolat since the beginning and the ‘no nasties’ approach bans the use 
 of additives such as hydrogenated vegetable fat and artificial colours in order 
 to let the pure chocolate flavours and aromas through.

 Ever since our inception in 1993, delivered chocolate has been the very essence 
 of what we do (not some adjunct to our core activities!). Since then we have 
 made over 3 million successful chocolate deliveries making us the UK’s largest 
 and fastest growing company in our field. Peter and I are still as committed 
 and hands-on as ever.

In Ghana, the world’s second largest cocoa producing country, we make direct 
financial contributions to assist local projects: rejuvenating old cocoa 
tree stock which boosts farmers incomes and improving the resources of the 
village schools so that the education of children of poor cocoa farmers is 
given a better chance of succeeding.
